His reputation goes beyond his association with them as arguably one of Canada's most ambitious, versatile and inventive artists of the 20th century. Town rose to fame in the late 1950's with a series of unique prints ("Single Autographic Prints") that included elements of collage. In 1956, he represented Canada at the Venice Biennale
